John Zorn is an American composer, conductor, producer, arranger, and saxophonist whose work deliberately resists category. His avant-garde compositions and experimental improvisations meld diverse genres, including jazz, rock, hardcore, classical, contemporary, surf, metal, soundtrack, ambient, Jewish, and world music. These works are performed by unexpected groups of players to achieve startling, unrepeatable results. Although operating almost entirely outside of the mainstream, Zorn has been described by Rolling Stone as one of the most influential musicians of our time.
