Perla Batalla is an American vocalist, composer, and arranger who first gained international attention as a backup singer for Leonard Cohen. Encouraged by Cohen, she launched a solo career, releasing her self-titled debut album in 1994. She later founded her own record label, Mechuda Music, to release her 1998 album, Mestiza. Her subsequent releases include Discoteca Batalla in 2002, paying tribute to her parents' record shop, and the 2005 Cohen tribute album Bird on the Wire. She also featured in Hal Willner's tribute concert film, Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man.
