Vaughan Williams is an English composer whose works include operas, ballets, chamber music, vocal pieces, and orchestral compositions. Strongly influenced by Tudor music and English folk-song, his output marks a decisive break in British music from its German-dominated style. He is among the best-known British symphonists, noted for a wide range of moods ranging from stormy and impassioned to tranquil, mysterious, and exuberant.
