Confederate Railroad is an American country rock band founded in Marietta, Georgia, in 1987. Originally formed by Danny Shirley, Michael Lamb, Mark Dufresne, Chris McDaniel, Warren "Gates" Nichols, and Wayne Secrest, the group first served as a backing band for outlaw country artists David Allan Coe and Johnny Paycheck. After signing with Atlantic Records, they released a double-platinum self-titled debut album, followed by their platinum-selling second album, Notorious. Over their career, the band has also secured 18 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
