Converge is an American metallic hardcore band featuring an extremely aggressive, boundary-pushing sound rooted in hardcore and heavy metal. Formed in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1990 by vocalist Jacob Bannon and guitarist Kurt Ballou, the group established its long-standing four-piece lineup in 2001 with the addition of bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller. Recognized as pioneers of metalcore and its subgenre mathcore, the band's members are also known for side-projects including Supermachiner, Old Man Gloom, and Mutoid Man.
