Primus is an American rock band originally formed in El Sobrante, California, in 1984. The group was initially founded by bassist and vocalist Les Claypool alongside guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Following the departure of Huth and Lane before the band's recording career began in 1989, they were replaced by guitarist Larry "Ler" LaLonde and drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander. As of 2026, the band's lineup consists of Claypool, LaLonde, and drummer John "Hoffer" Hoffman.
