The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. Built around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid, the two founders remain the band's only consistent members. Recognized as key figures in the development of noise pop and shoegaze, the group has earned twelve top 40 entries and two top 10 hits on the UK Singles Chart.
