About the event

For the upcoming webinar in collaboration with Silicon Valley Study Tour, INNOVIT - Italian Innovation and Culture Hub, ITA - Italian Trade Agency and Silicon Valley Fellowship, Simone will share his experience as Principal Investigator and Director of Computational Biology @ Altos Labs Bay Area Institute of Science.

Simone began his academic journey by earning a Master's degree in Physics from the University of Pisa in 2004. He furthered his studies by obtaining a PhD in Physics from the University of North Texas in 2007.

From 2014 to 2021, Simone was a research staff member at IBM Research Almaden in San Jose, where he founded and led the department of Functional Genomic and Cellular Engineering. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to the field of genomic and cellular engineering.

Simone has received recognition for his innovative work and commitment to education. He was a TED speaker, garnering over one million views, and led one of IBM's "5-in-5" projects in 2018, identified as initiatives that will change the world in the next five years.

His academic involvement also extends to being an honorary visiting lecturer for the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, an acknowledgment for his work on dynamical systems and his dedication to education.

Simone is also active in promoting diversity and inclusivity in the field of computational sciences. He serves on the board of the SFSU PINC program, which aims to increase diversity and build inclusivity in computational sciences.

Simone's research bridges Biology with Engineering, the Physical Sciences, and Computer Science, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence, connecting different disciplines to advance scientific and technological research.
