Within this immense area, everything has remained in its original place: the machinery, the equipment, the nets, the barrels, the cans for preserves, and the large boats used for the "mattanza." The tour of the facility transcends references to industrial archaeology, seen as a panacea for all ills, and vividly presents the history of tuna fishing and the men who lived this ancient ritual in an almost heroic manner. A "new factory," in the sense of a workplace, a space dedicated to production and research, has returned to pulsating life, generating income for the people. Contemporary art, combined with the echoes of the Battle of the Egadi Islands and the voices of the tuna fishermen, has created a new frontier to explore, the magical interplay between art and sea, nature and artifice.
