Welcome to the World Warrior Foundation’s inaugural webinar—an invitation to begin a critical conversation about treating anemia such as sickle cell disease through evidence-based bloodless medicine programs led by highly skilled hematologists. Did you know that February 13 is World Anemia Day?
For decades, blood transfusions have been positioned as a first-line—and often the only—treatment option for sickle cell disease. Yet across the globe, there is a growing population of sickle cell warriors for whom transfusions are not an option, and who are not only surviving, but managing their disease through rigorously studied, non-transfusion-based approaches.
These outcomes are not accidental. They are the result of intentional, evidence-driven strategies developed and implemented by hematologists worldwide.
This raises an important question: why are bloodless medicine approaches so often introduced only after complications arise? Why not begin before iron overload, before alloimmunization, and before preventable harm occurs?
Bloodless medicine tools offer a proactive, preventative, and scientifically supported framework for treating sickle cell disease—one that centers patient choice, risk reduction, and long-term outcomes.
