Capoeira Angola — Sundays

Sunday afternoons 3:00 to 5:00 at Ashkenaz in Berkeley. Capoeira Angola is the older, lower, more strategic branch of the Brazilian art — a conversation between two players inside a roda, carried by berimbau, song and a great deal of patience. Less acrobatic than the contemporary style, and far more interested in cunning than in height. Two full hours, all levels, no experience needed. Ashkenaz has hosted Afro-Brazilian traditions for decades, and the roda is open to newcomers who just want to sit in the circle, clap and sing first.
