Superman is a 1978 superhero film production directed by Richard Donner, based on the DC Comics character. Starring Christopher Reeve in the title role, the film depicts the origin of Superman, from his infancy as Kal-El of Krypton to his youth in Smallville. Disguised as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent in Metropolis, he develops a romance with Lois Lane, played by Margot Kidder, while battling the villainous Lex Luthor, portrayed by Gene Hackman. The production features an ensemble cast that also includes Marlon Brando as Jor-El.
