FADE TO BLK is an exploration of Blackness not as absence, but as structure.
Bryant McLemore Smith's work lives in the in-between-where textile becomes archive, and clothing carries the weight of memory, labor, and survival. Pulling from vintage garments and reconstructed forms, the work resists spectacle in favor of process, insisting that what is often unseen is what holds everything together.
These pieces are not designed to disappear into darkness, but to reveal what Blackness has always been: foundational, intentional, and active. In fading to black, we are not ending-we are beginning.
