The day opens along the waterfront, climbs effortlessly to the Golden Gate Bridge, crosses the span, and descends into Sausalito for the kind of long lunch stop that is the whole point of being on the Marin side. From there the route extends further than the typical half-day bike tour — into the headlands, around the harbor, or down the coast, depending on the day's plan — before looping back via ferry.
