Boston Symphony Orchestra

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is an American symphony orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts. Established as the second-oldest orchestra in the United States, it is recognized as one of the "Big Five" major American symphony orchestras. Founded by Henry Lee Higginson in 1881, the ensemble performs the majority of its concerts at Boston's Symphony Hall, while spending its summers performing at Tanglewood. The organization also features an offshoot group, The Boston Pops, which was founded in 1885 to perform lighter music.
