Charlotte 49ers

The Charlotte 49ers football program represents the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in college football. The UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees voted to add the program on November 13, 2008, following a unanimous recommendation from the Football Feasibility Committee. The team was made possible by Student Government initiatives starting in 2006 led by Benjamin Comstock and Jordan Van Dyne, which included an online student poll that showed strong interest despite potential tuition fee increases. The program began play during the 2013 NCAA Division I FCS college football season.
