Romeo and Juliet

This production is based on the 1996 romantic crime film adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy, directed, produced, and co-written by Baz Luhrmann. A modernized version that retains Shakespearean English, the story follows two teenagers from feuding families who fall in love. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the title roles, with supporting performances from Brian Dennehy, John Leguizamo, Miriam Margolyes, Harold Perrineau, Pete Postlethwaite, Paul Sorvino, and Diane Venora. It represents the third major film version of the play, following earlier adaptations by George Cukor in 1936 and Franco Zeffirelli in 1968.
