The Firebird
The Firebird is a ballet and orchestral concert work based on Russian fairy tales about the magical bird and the blessing and curse it possesses for its owner. Set in an evil immortal's castle, the production follows a prince who battles the immortal with the help of the magical creature. The work distinguishes mortal and supernatural elements with a system of leitmotifs placed in the harmony. The orchestration utilizes specialist techniques including ponticello, col legno, flautando, glissando, and flutter-tonguing.
