Halo: The Flood is a military science fiction novel by William C. Dietz, based on the video game series Halo and specifically the 2001 game Halo: Combat Evolved. Released in April 2003 as the second Halo novel, the story begins with the human ship Pillar of Autumn escaping alien enemies called the Covenant. After discovering the massive artifact Halo, humans must fight the Covenant and a second terrifying force to survive and learn Halo's secrets, including storyline elements not seen by the super-soldier Master Chief.
