Artist
Jordi Savall
Jordi Savall i Bernadet is a Spanish conductor, composer, viol player, and musicologist. Active as a major figure in Western early music since the 1970s, he is largely responsible for popularizing the viol family of instruments in contemporary performance and recording. As an early music historian, his repertoire spans medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras through to the Classical and Romantic periods. In addition to Western music, he incorporates non-Western musical traditions into his work, such as including African vernacular music for a documentary on slavery.
