The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker is a two-act classical ballet conceived as a ballet-féerie. The production is set on Christmas Eve at the foot of a Christmas tree in a child's imagination featuring a Nutcracker doll. The plot is adapted from a short story, which is itself a retelling of another short story about a nutcracker and a mouse king. Danced by many ballet companies, especially in North America, this ballet generates around 40% of the annual ticket revenues for major American ballet companies.
