Mother's Finest
First formed in 1970, Mother's Finest is an American funk rock band led by the married vocal duo of Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy and Glenn "Doc" Murdock. Classic Rock magazine described them as "Sly and The Family Stone-meets-Led Zeppelin." The group gained notice during the 1970s for their interracial membership and energetic live performances opening for funk and rock acts. Though they did not find mainstream success in their heyday, they earned praise as originators of funk metal and a formative influence on later bands combining funk and rock, including Living Colour and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
