Maris
Jacob Henricus Maris was a Dutch painter who, alongside his brothers Willem and Matthijs, belonged to the Hague School of painters. He was considered the most important and influential Dutch landscape painter of the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Maris was taught the art of painting by his first teacher, J.A.B. Stroebel, from 1849 to 1852. His most known works include a series of portraits of the royal House of Orange, which he produced with his brother Matthijs, as well as landscapes such as "Ship on the Scheveningen beach."
