Liga MX

Liga MX, officially known as Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional association football league in Mexico and the highest level of the country's football league system. Formerly called Liga Mayor from 1943 to 1949 and Primera División de México from 1949 to 2012, the league is contested by 18 participating clubs. Each season is divided into two distinct tournaments, the Apertura and Clausura, with the champions of each decided by a final knockout phase known as the Liguilla. Promotion and relegation within the league have been suspended since 2020.
