Hansel and Gretel

Hansel and Gretel is a fairy-tale opera, or Märchenoper, based on the classic fairy tale of the same name. The production features a libretto written by the composer's sister and is admired for its folk music-inspired themes. Originally developed from musical sketches, the work became a full-scale opera composed in Frankfurt. First performed in Weimar, the production is closely associated with Christmas and is most often performed during the holiday season.
