Il Trovatore

Il Trovatore is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi. The production features an Italian libretto written largely by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the 1836 Spanish play El trovador by Antonio García Gutiérrez. This source material, which was García Gutiérrez's most successful play, is described by Verdi scholar Julian Budden as a sprawling melodrama flamboyantly defiant of the Aristotelian unities and packed with fantastic and bizarre incidents.
