Appalachian Spring
Appalachian Spring is an American ballet created by choreographer Martha Graham and composer Aaron Copland, which is also arranged as an orchestral work. Commissioned by Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge, the production features choreography by Graham, costumes by Edythe Gilfond, and sets by Isamu Noguchi. The ballet remains essential in the Martha Graham Dance Company repertoire. The music incorporates accessible characteristics of the Americana style, aligning with Graham's focus on American history and culture and Copland's goal of appealing to the general public.
