London Symphony Orchestra

The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is a British ensemble based in London. Founded in 1904, it is the oldest of London's symphony orchestras. The ensemble was originally created by a group of players who left Henry Wood's Queen's Hall Orchestra after a rule change required their exclusive services, though the LSO eventually established a similar policy for its own members. From its inception, the orchestra operated on a co-operative basis, with players sharing the profits at the end of each season, a practice that the organization maintained for its first four decades.
