Pedrito Martinez
Pedrito Martinez is a Cuban percussionist, singer, dancer, and songwriter who was born and raised in Havana. As a conguero, he performs classic Cuban rumbas alongside Afro-Cuban folkloric and religious music. A santería priest who learned his craft on the streets of Havana, he came to the United States and settled in the New York City and New Jersey area. Martinez plays the batá drum, conga, cajón, timbales, and bongo drums. He is also a member of the Nuevo Jazz Latino program at Jazz at Lincoln Center and leads the Pedrito Martinez Group.
