The Smithereens are an American rock band originally from Carteret, New Jersey. Formed in 1980, the group's original lineup featured Pat DiNizio, Jim Babjak, Mike Mesaros, and Dennis Diken. This original lineup performed together until 2006, when Severo Jornacion replaced Mesaros on bass guitar, though Mesaros later returned to the group in 2016. Following the death of DiNizio in 2017, the remaining members have continued to perform live shows as a trio, collaborating with various guest vocalists.
