Fiddler on the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein. Based on Sholem Aleichem's stories, including "Tevye the Dairyman," the production is set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia. The story centers on Tevye, a milkman in the fictional village of Anatevka, who struggles to maintain his Jewish traditions against encroaching outside influences. He must cope with the choices of his three older daughters who wish to marry for love, while an edict of the tsar threatens to evict the Jewish villagers.
