Faust is a tragic play in two parts by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, based on the German folk legend of the same name. Known in English as Faust, Part One and Faust, Part Two, the production features rhymed verse throughout nearly all of the first part and the majority of the second. Although it is rarely staged in its entirety, the play draws the largest audience numbers on German-language stages. It is widely considered to be Goethe's magnum opus and is regarded by many as the greatest work of German literature.
