Miss Saigon
Miss Saigon is a 1989 sung-through stage musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby Jr. Based on Giacomo Puccini's 1904 opera Madama Butterfly, the production tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance. The plot is set in 1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War, focusing on the relationship between a United States Marine and a seventeen-year-old South Vietnamese bargirl, who is abandoned by her American lover. This narrative replaces the original opera's story of an American lieutenant and a geisha.
