Rhinoceros
Rhinoceros is a three-act play by playwright Eugène Ionesco, written in 1959. The production depicts the inhabitants of a small, provincial French town who gradually transform into rhinoceroses. Only one human, a flustered everyman named Bérenger, resists this mass metamorphosis despite his struggles with drinking, tardiness, and paranoia. Often associated with the post-war avant-garde drama movement known as the Theatre of the Absurd, the play explores themes of conformity, culture, fascism, and mob mentality. It is frequently interpreted as a critique of the rise of Fascism and Nazism before World War II.
