Der Rosenkavalier, also known as The Knight of the Rose or The Rose-Bearer, is a comic opera in three acts featuring a German libretto. Loosely adapted from a novel and a comedy, the production features four main characters: the aristocratic Marschallin, her seventeen-year-old lover Count Octavian Rofrano, her brutish cousin Baron Ochs, and Sophie von Faninal. The plot centers on a comic intrigue where Octavian presents a ceremonial silver rose to Sophie on behalf of the Baron, only for the two to fall in love and scheme to end the engagement.
