About
The Glass Menagerie is a memory play written by Tennessee Williams. Premiering in 1944, the production brought widespread fame to its author. The play contains strong autobiographical elements, presenting characters based directly on Williams, his histrionic mother, and his mentally fragile sister. In creating the play, Williams drew material from an earlier short story he had written, as well as a screenplay originally titled The Gentleman Caller.
