This production is an adaptation of The Snowy Day, the 1962 children's picture book by American author and illustrator Ezra Jack Keats. The narrative features Peter, an African American child, who explores his neighborhood after the season's first snowfall. Keats' work helped pave the way for diverse children's literature, earning the 1963 Caldecott Medal for its collage artwork. As the first picture book with an African American protagonist to win a major children's award, the story has been widely translated, adapted, and honored.
